Dr. Kate von Lackum is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, an American Dental Association Recognized Specialty. Additionally, Dr. von Lackum trained to become a Fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantology (ICOI), a non-profit continuing education organization committed towards development, research and advanced training in the field of implant dentistry.
She is an active member in the American Academy of Periodontology, International Congress of Oral Implantology, Academy of Osseointegration, American Dental Association (ADA), Kentucky Dental Association, Blue Grass Dental Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
Lexington native, Kate von Lackum, graduated from Tates Creek High School in 1996. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Hanover College, Hanover, IN. She returned to Lexington to complete a PhD in Microbiology at the University of Kentucky in 2006. Dr. von Lackum attended the University of Florida College of Dentistry receiving a D.M.D. in 2010, while serving her classmates as vice-president for four years and working closely with the College of Dentistry administration. During her senior year of dental school, Dr. von Lackum was awarded the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Award for Outstanding Achievement in Periodontics. The International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) also recognized her with the Pre-Doctoral Achievement Award in recognition of her interest and commitment to oral implantology and implant dentistry.
She went on to graduate from the University of Florida’s School for Advanced Dental Sciences with a certificate in training in Periodontics. While completing her residency, Dr. von Lackum had the unique opportunity to attend and graduate from several extra-mural educational programs including the Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, FL, the Pikos Institute’s course on Advanced Bone Grafting, as well as the Misch International Implant Institute’s complete Implant Surgical Program (120 hours of continuing education on implant surgery, bone and soft tissue augmentation techniques, and implant restorative treatment planing). She was recently honored as a finalist for the prestigious Kramer Award from the AAP Foundation at the Annual AAP meeting in Philadelphia, PA, September, 2013.
Personally, Dr. Kate is a proud Kentuckian and quite glad to be back in her hometown of Lexington. She enjoys running, hiking, photography, teaching dental students, and spending time with family and friends including her newest family member, Simon, a boisterous Golden Retriever puppy.
